I was going to call them Hellebores but for a place historic like Old Salem, NC–I decided Lenten Roses sounded old and familiar. This shot was snapped while visiting there in the late winter of 2008. I stood here and looked across at where my Nana and Uncle Bim lived just across the way. I grew up running through these alleyways and playing on these lawns.
I have a few here, nothing as good as that and they really cheer me at this time of year – along with the brave Snowdrops.
I will have to go back this year and see if the Lentens are still blooming there. That is a hidden spot away from all the tourist. I might have missed it too if I wasn’t so nosey and poking my camera around. The Snowdrops are a nice break from the winter blast.
