June Delugas Interiors, Elegant Garden Decor

June Delugas Interiors, Inc of Clemmons, North Carolina is an environmentally friendly and eco-savvy business. On my search for elegant garden decor, I discovered a treasure trove of ideas from this very well known and talented designer June Delugas. Vintage chandeliers, fabrics, dishes, art, furniture, pillows, and other items showcased in these photos can be found in her cleverly decorated studio on Old Glory Road.

June has a quiet and confident demeanor and is well respected in the community. I’m going to give her a blank check one day and let her transform my home and porches in to that modern shabby chic with soft colors and a splash of the unexpected. That’s my style but June can do anything. While we were interviewing, there were at least 5 projects being coordinated.

June has been in the design business for 30 years. Helping her are Elizabeth Lovette, also 30 years experience, and their onsite artist Leigh Ann Alexander. Jennie Hess is the marketing manager.

Vintage chandeliers, silver candlesticks, and botanical prints are finding their way to the elegant garden shed. As are upholestered furniture pieces, pottery, and vintage mirrors which you’ll find throughout the studio. The wreath above the mantel is adorned with Blue Ridge Pottery™ made right here in NC. When possible, June uses recycled, reclaimed, gently used, eco-friendly and manufactured in NC in her designs.

They do ship!

The Santa Claus can be custom made with a favorite old coat, jewelry, grandma’s fur coat–think of the memories or special pieces you could incorporate.

As shown on the wreath, Blue Ridge Pottery is famous here in NC. It was once called the poor man’s pottery. Today it is much sought after.

Original art pieces laminated on recycled cardboard. The theme of blackbirds appropriate for spring 2011. Your shabby chic or sunroom would like very much to have this art.

On the top of everyone’s wish list would be a repurposed or reinvented china hutch and buffet. June’s on-sight artist hand painted this piece bringing it to the modern distressed and re-appreciated style.

Old and new vases are tucked high and low. Accent tables displaying vintage and unique lamps of all sizes are plentiful.

This is day 1 of the Elegant Garden Decor tour. Sunday, we’ll see a reproduction antique piece perfect for storing seeds, seed packets, and dried blooms. All–from June Delugas Interiors, Inc of Clemmons, NC.

Why I can’t stand living in North Carolina

Oh gosh! some photos come out and you gasp at the loveliness. Isn’t my cottage grand! Wait…you were probably looking at the autumn color right?

Copper Top Cottage last autumn sits under the amber, reds, and golden tones of the tree canopy. I have this to look forward to in just a few short weeks. How can you stand it I ask myself?? Lots of things about NC are attractive but this is one of its best moments don’t ya think?

Every since I was itty bitty, I’ve looked forward to autumn and this year even more so. It’s been so stinking hot. I just don’t want it anymore. I want to smell wood smoke, taste fresh apple pies, and carve the pumpkin. Anyone else feel that way?

The flower companies and propagators are already contacting me about autumn shipments of new cultivars for fall 2011. Yippee! Oh how I love to get these new plants. I know you love reading about it. So I’m gearing up for that and my April Cornell back porch makeover. Stay tuned!

Copper Top Cottage as you’ve never seen it.

Here is every corner of Copper Top Cottage. It’s starting to become the space I dreamed about as a little girl. From all those pine straw make believe houses I made as a kid–to the real life version that MrD made for me. Thank you my sweet husband. I told him how I played house as a little girl and dreamed of having the house of my dreams and a shed ;) . He said what kind of shed…..

Come inside–

My grandmother’s crystal…..

My great aunt’s supper bell, a thermos that my uncle took to work at RJ Reynolds during his career, and other cherished items.

and every day that he took that thermos, his tool chest waited for him. Upon his retirement as the electrician, he brought his tool hutch home with him. Just recently, he and my aunt moved to a retirement home. He gave me his hutch and some of his tools. I love it all!! This is a working shed of mine. You’ll see in a minute.

The spatulas are my aunts but I like their stuff displayed like this. I like how many files my uncle had. I used one to smooth off the branches that hold the curtains.

And in the tool chest were a bunch of brackets and stuff–that I  used to hang the sticks …Uncle Bob would love it that I’m using it.

That’s just cool old stuff that I can use on my birdhouses—there is lots more in the other drawers.

This is a working shed. Birdhouses and feeders will be made from the wood in the back left corner. I collected some of it from an old house that was torn down. And you can see I’m in the middle of planting seeds.

The lace curtains are up for several reasons. They are pretty but the function to keep keep the hot sun from shining on my seedlings–and if I am working in there and want the windows open–they keep the bugs out.

I have 5 trays planted up so far. 15 or more to go.

The metal cabinet was in my grandmother’s bathroom. She used it to store her linens. I got the stained glass pieces at a salvage yard. I have more and will hang them from the rafters. I still have to paint the floor with the ginkgo pattern. The fan on the cabinet was my grandma’s too. My aunt made the little stool—so I cherish so much from my family.

If you notice, I don’t mention my mom and dad very much—it’s because the memories with my aunt , uncle, and grandma were more important to me. I have a few things from my parent’s home and I did take care of my mom for years after her strokes—but my most happiest moments were with my grandma, aunts and uncles. All my morals and values came from them.

I hope you have enjoyed the progress on Copper Top Cottage—I’m not nearly done–lots more trinkets and such to add. Hugs to everyone and thanks for following the journey. We got to fix that front drooping copper fascia board. And those extra windows—there are plans for those–stay tuned.

You ask, so of course I tell! and, a peak at Copper Top

FlowergardengirlThis is just real ya’ll so listen up—She’s 51? I get that a lot and it’s nice to hear it ask as a question. I know some of how you look is in how you act but a lot is in the daily care of your skin. I got the best advice of my life 30 years ago from a very harsh and abrasive dermatologist. I could hug his neck today but at the time I wanted to hand him over to my three big brothers.

He had me under one of those examining lights and was criticizing all 20 years of my life in the sun. I was told to wear sunscreen and then given the list I’ve included below for you. It was the way he delivered the message that I didn’t like. He acted like I was out to destroy my skin on purpose. So I suppose at 20, I was. Wish I could remember who he was. Funny that I took him seriously huh?

Thank you for all the nice kudos about my family in the previous post. They read my blog and very much appreciate your kind words. Now to the good stuff you tuned in to hear.

It’s easy. Learn these habits:

1. Never EVER—sleep on anything but your back. Period. That’s right, for 30 years, I’ve been sleeping on my back so that I would not create crease marks on my cheeks or nose.

2. Never go to bed with make-up on. Use a buff pad to gently wash your face with Dr. Bronners soap both AM and PM and immediately follow with witch hazel to close the pores. Do it religiously. I probably have only missed a hand full of days in all these years.

3. As for the make-up, I use a liner on the outer edges and bottom of my eyes. It’s a bit worn off in the picture above and usually is more sharp but you get the idea. I wear a mineral make-up base close to my skin tone. But in the pic above, I wasn’t wearing any base and was actually wearing Mac mineral eye shadow in a rose shade on my cheeks. Yes, you can use a powder eye shadow on your cheeks and it’s less expensive than buying a whole compact of the cheek product. I don’t have any eye shadow on and don’t normally wear any.

4. Find a lipstick of lip gloss you like. I don’t have a favorite. I try to make it favor whatever I’m wearing.

5. I always wear perfume. Always! I wear Jessica McClintock most days. If Mr. D is taking me out, I wear Very Sexy by Victoria Secret.

6. My favorite body lotion is Jergens original.

Hair: It’s time to color it again. My natural shade is dark brown and you can see how much grey is coming in. I really like Clairol Perfect 10 nice ‘n easy in the color 6 light brown chocolate shake —of course. I color every 6 to 10 weeks.

I do want to give the Benefit Cosmetics Line a try. Looks so darn cute. May have to try that Benetint ;) Jean and Jane have an adorable story and the makeup personality sure fits mine doesn’t it ya’ll.

Allright, it’s time for a peak at what’s happening inside Copper Top Cottage—-come on….oh, I am not 5 months pregnant and do not know why I look like that. Maybe it’s those dang cookies this week.
