Bilbo has reached the heat and humidity of NC.

100_9770Yea! Bilbo made it to NC. He started out with Miss Dirt Princess in Alabama and you can read her blog to see all the wonderful places he’s been. She has links on her sidebar showing each stop on Bilbo’s journey. It took him a long time to cross the ocean to my house. Julie at My English Country Garden in Lincolnshire mailed Bilbo out on the 18th of June. I’m going to post a picture of that postage so you can see what we mean. The mailman did look tired when he arrived at my door.

We think Bilbo fell in love with Jane Austin who lives with Julie. I guess she used and abused him and now he wants to come recuperate in NC for a few days.  I have promised Bilbo a good time and will be taking lots of pictures of him.

100_9765He’s out of focus here cause I’m out of focus. He’ll look better in post 2.

I’ll mail him back out on Monday. Sign up here and the next post if you would like Bilbo to come see you. I’ll pick the winner on Sunday afternoon. You have until 8pm Sunday July 26, 2009  to get your names on this post and the one following that will highlight Bilbo’s NC adventures.

Good Luck everyone and stay tuned for part 2 of Bilbo’s NC vacation. If you do decide to host Bilbo, here are the rules we must paste on your site to participate:

RULES

#1) COPY & PASTE these rules into your post on Bilbo if you receive him. The post must be titled WHERE IN THE WORLD IS BILBO: (your city). If everyone copies the rules, then the person you send it to will know what to do. If each post is titled the same, we can keep track of Bilbo and follow him on his adventure. PLEASE do not forget to copy and paste these rules into your post if you receive Bilbo.

#2) In order to participate you MUST leave a comment on the post about Bilbo with the blogger that has him. That blogger will draw names from the people who left comments on that post. Once the winner is selected Bilbo will be on his way to see your garden.

#3) When you receive Bilbo please take a photo (or photos) of him in your garden as well as a photo of yourself with Bilbo.

#4) Rules are linked to http://northmobilegardensociety.blogspot.com/ . Please leave a comment on The Dirt Princess’ page so she can keep track of him and let other bloggers know where Bilbo is, and post where bloggers can see his latest travel.

#5) Please try to get Bilbo out the door as quickly as you possibly can. If at all possible please try not to keep him more than 7 days. We want to get him to as many places as we can in 6 months.

#6) Bilbo will travel for 6 months, April 21, 2009- October 21, 2009. If you have Bilbo at the end of this 6 month time frame, you will ship him back to the Dirt Princess at http://northmobilegardensociety.blogspot.com/.

#7) When Bilbo arrives back with the Dirt Princess, there will be a great post letting everyone know where Bilbo has been, when he visited as well as links to the bloggers posts that had Bilbo.

#8) There will be a list enclosed with Bilbo for each blogger to sign once they receive Bilbo. That list will be sent back to the Dirt Princess.

#9) Should anyone have any questions please contact Dirt Princess at

http://northmobilegardensociety.blogspot.com/.

#10) The blogger that is has possession of Bilbo is responsible for shipping him to the next blogger. Please handle him with care. He is ceramic.

#11) Bilbo may be shipped to countries outside the United States. We want everyone to join in on the fun!

#12) If you would like to throw in a little something with Bilbo to ship the next blogger, please feel free. Add to the excitement. See what Bilbo brings you when he arrives at your door step.

  1. Don’t send him to me, I’ve already had him, (?), but he’s looking good and I’m glad he turned up safe and sound at last.
Poor little guy. He was gone forever. I was going to show him around some more but he arrived at my busiest time. We did have a good time with him today and it’s always nice to go over to Old Salem and snoot around a bit. Makes me feel connected.

  2. Hi Anna, it sounds good fun so put my name into the hat for the draw.Bilbo may like to meet an Irish Colleen on his travels, there could be a Scarlett O’Hara in his future who will overshadow any memories of Jane Austin!
He says to bring it on cause he’s coming! He talks Southern now so you need to practice.

  3. I am glad Bilbo is safe and sound in your charming gardens. I know he will have fun and will soon forget about Jane. Please throw my name in the flower pot!!
You don’t need Bilbo when you’ve got a fine BBQ grill planting table. You are spoiled. I’m going to run out and get 4.

  4. I wonder if he get air-sick flying to Malaysia?…

He looks pretty good right now and I think he can make the trip! I’ll enter you in the contest. There are some beautiful folks in Malaysia so I hope Bilbo remembers he’s got to go back to Alabama—don’t let him fall in love with another lady.

  5. I’ve already had him (wow. that sounds a little dirty!), so don’t enter me in the drawing. I’m just stopping by to say hello, and I LOVE this story with Jane Austen you, Julie and April are telling!!
I think he enjoyed his visit with Jane too much but just wait till he taste some our BBQ. He’ll forget Jane in a minute.

  6. This sounds like so much fun, but I feel guilty asking since I have that beautiful bag.
Of course you can join in. I’ll add your name!

This is the doings of Dirt Princess and anyone can enter. I’ll have MrD draw the name tomorrow night. I’m getting up early in the morning to take him around my garden and town. Hopefully the post will be up and ready to go by noon tomorrow. I’m trying to get him rushed back out the door.

  7. Well I am so glad to see my boy!!!! Please don’t introduce him to any single ladies…..you know how he is!!!! Give him my love ;-)
I am thrilled to see him. He’s resting at the moment and MrD and I won’t be able to show him around till in the morning. I’m hoping to have his pics up by noon tomorrow. He’s in really good shape. He looks a little fat—like he’s been living grandly. I gave him a big fat hug and kiss for ya!

  8. So glad he finally resurfaced :) He was here before he went to visit Julie. Looking forward to seeing him in your garden.
And he told me all about his visit with you. I told him enough already that he was in NC now and to quit his bragging on everyone else. He sure is spoiled. He expects me to wait on him hand and foot.

  9. I cannot tell you how relived I am that he has finally arrived.

Of course Jane Austen is wondering what on earth has happened. She told many differing tales to cover her tracks. I think we will never know the truth of where he has been , and what they have done together. Perhaps its best left unsaid. It may indeed be true that “Silence is the better part of Discretion” ;-)

I am so glad he is with you Anna and I’m sure he is ready to have a rip roaring wonderful time with you in your beautiful state. I wish I were there to join in the fun! Im so looking forward to your reports.
When I mention Jane’s name, he rolls his eyes. I’m glad he’s here too and thank you for the treasures. I’m going to write lots about his adventures tomorrow–look for the post around noonish.
